Peg Pregos first hit in the convertible car seat market with its premium convertible car seat. This seat as its name shows is available for infants and toddler too, just like most of the car seats on the market. It uses very good quality materials and the biggest advantage of the seat is that it has a very high weight limit both in rear facing and forward facing positions.
This article is going to look at the advantages and disadvantages of the Peg Prego Convertible Car Seat focusing on the safety and comfort features the seat owns.
A very significant advantage is what I have already mentioned above, is that its weight limits are higher than the seats in this category. In rear facing position the seat can be used up to 45 lbs while in forward facing position the Peg Prego Convertible Car Seat provides us a 70 lbs weight limit. This is very high comparing to the other models in the category.
Safety features are emphasized at Prego, because it owns an outstanding 10 harness slot positions. The highest slot position in rear facing position is about 11 inches while in forward facing position it is 14.25 inches. These features are very good because heavier and taller children can use the seat without replacing it because they outgrow it very quickly.
The padding adds much to safety of the seat. It is composed of EPS and EPP foams. ESP foam is used on the side while EPP is used on the seating surface of the seat making it more comfortable and safe for your little ones.
With the ten point harness you can use the seat from the height of 7 inches with the infant cushion inserted and it can go up to 17 inches. There is only one recline to the rear facing position and if you can’t decide which is the right angle to put the seat in you can use the indicator on the seat to help you to find the best position.
There are two LATCH straps on the seat for rear and forward facing position which are placed on the sides of the seat. These are copied from Britax, but they work well with this composition. If the straps are not in use you can put them into their holder under the sitting part of the seat. For forward facing position using harness is always advised but the top tether is not necessarily needed.
The materials used for the covers are Italian, so they are the best quality. The cover is mainly from polyester but there are parts that are hand-sewn. You can easily remove if you want to wash them, of course they are machine washable as well as the head wings’ cover which is also easily removable thanks to the stretchy material so it won’t tear.
The Pet Prego Convertible Car Seat has an expiry period of 7 years but if the seat is involved in a crash, according to the manual you have to get in contact with the producer for further information about using the car seat further or you have to replace it with another one.
This seat is also certified to be used on airplanes, but its weight is 21 lbs which is a little bit heavy to carry I suppose. The manual is excellently made; you can find all the instruction you need to use the seat properly and safely.
There is an infant support cushion included in the package which provides a good support in rear facing position. The cushion should be used up to 22 lbs of weight it mustn’t be used in forward facing position.
After listing the advantages of Peg Prego Convertible Car Seat let’s take a look at the disadvantages that this premium category car seat may have.
First of all the forward facing position has very tricky seat belt path. This is a new and unique technology and that’s why it is a little bit difficult to use. The other advantage is the harness covers which are very comfortable for children but being very thick and long they make it difficult to tighten the harness properly. Not only the forward facing position installation is hard, but the rear facing one too. You have to keep the seat in the right angle to be able to pull the seatbelt through the belt path, it is a little bit upsetting.
Over all the Peg Prego Convertible Car Seat is one of the best car seats on the market it has only minor defects that are easy to live with. The biggest advantages are the high weight and height limit so that you can use it for a long time. It has a very good choice of materials providing not only comfort but safety too.
