- Lower height and weight limits
Now let’s take a look at the Combi Coccoro convertible car seat. What is very obvious about the seat for the first sight is that it is not a robust one. It seems to be and it really is a very light car seat only weighs around 10 lbs which makes it easy to carry but does it make it practical in terms of height and weight limit of children?
To answer the question, I would say no. It is a convertible car seat that can be used in forward and rear facing position too. The weight limit of the rear facing position is 33 lbs while in forward facing position it is still 40 lbs. This is not so much comparing to the other seats sold on the market.
However, of course Combi Coccoro has positive features too. For example it goes with an infant insert which is not purchased separately so it is included in the package. This insert is very well padded and provides comfort and good hold for your little one. It is to used only in rear facing position.
The cover is well padded and loading and loading is made easier with the pockets you can put the locks and straps while boarding and unloading your child. There is a Tru-Safe indicator on the puzzle buckle which turns green if all the buckles are tightened well. I think this is a very good technology and it makes you sure that your baby is travelling the highest protection you can provide.
There are high side walls and the back of the shell is padded with ESP foam and it also contains EPP-like foam too, but it is assumed to be for better comfort.
The installation of the seat is very easy because everything you have to do is color coded. The seat belt baths may seem a little bit confusing but, once you got used to it they are easy to follow. So the colors are red and blue, blue is for forward facing positions and the red is for rear facing positions. Combi Coccoro also provides stickers and diagrams to help you hook and remove the LATCH straps if you use them in your car instead of seat belts. Latch connectors can be used in certain positions and the tether in only forward facing position.
In rear facing position you can use any harness slots out of four. You can use the infant insert too. This position is outgrown by children over 33lbs of weight. If you use the seat in forward facing position you mustn’t use the infant insert, it’s only allowed to be used in rear facing position, and you must only use the top two harness slots out of four.
This seat is small and light so it is very easy to travel with it for example on a plane, it is certified that Combi Coccoro convertible car seats can be placed in row of three. It must be true; however, I cannot imagine that a family has three children who fit into Combi Coccoro seats because it is very small. However, if you have two other car seats you can use Coccoro in the center in rear facing position and the other two can be used in forward facing positions on the sides.
Besides these, the manual of Combi Coccoro is a very well written and detailed guide that I can state is fool-proof. Everything is detailed and color coded so if you lose the way just stick back to the manual and you can pick the line easily. Moreover the manual can be with you all the time because it has a pocket on the seat where it can be stored and you can use it whenever you’re not sure.
After the advantages, let’s take a look at the disadvantages of the seat. So here they come. The biggest and most significant down side of the seat is that it is outgrown very quickly, faster than most of the seats on the market. There is not enough room for the chest clip to be positioned well and when there is the infant insert in the seat it means plus thickness.
The LATCH straps cannot be hidden well because if they are put into the pockets meant for them, the whole seat becomes bulky and wide. The other negative thing is the installation of infant insert, because a cord that you tie doesn’t make much sense.
However, Combi Coccoro is very convertible and it has a stroller to use with, it is very unimaginable to install and uninstall the seat every time you have to leave the car, because the buckle system is not that easy to do it that often.
All in all, Combi Coccoro is a very good seat for smaller children, and for those who often travel by aircraft, because the seat is light therefore it is easy to carry. It has a 7 year-long expiration period, or you can use it until your kid outgrows.
