Britax is one of the biggest producers of car seats in the USA as well as all over the world. The company puts significant emphasis on the safety features of its seats. That’s the same with Britax Pavilion 70 G3. This is not the first Britax convertible car seat that I’m dealing with; its siblings are also on the list. Of course there are differences in features and price between the seats but the main attributes are the same. Britax Pavilion 70-G3 is a high quality and category car seat with all the features that his younger brother the Britax Boulevard 70-G3 owns but it has a Click and Save snug harness indicator.
That was enough about the other Britax convertible car seats, let’s take a look at the Britax Pavilion 70-G3. This review is focusing on its features, advantages and of course disadvantages to make your choice easier to make and to provide a clearer image about the product.
Britax Pavilion 70-G3 has a lot of accessories like belly pad, infant body pillow, harness strap covers, energy-absorbing HUGS pads and a tether connector strap which helps you to tether the seat in the rear facing position. Moreover, it has a cup holder and an infant insert which are available for purchase. If you need, and want extra support for your infant you can order an extra infant positioning insert for the seat, but without the insert the seat is just as safe as without it.
Experts advise that children should sit in the seat rear facing until they reach the maximum height or weight. The weight limit of the seat in rear facing position is 40lbs. while in forward facing position it is available for children until 70lbs of weight or 49” of height. These seats are usable for 7 years and they are certified to be used on an aircraft too.
Among safety features you can find things like steel bars that are used in almost every modern convertible car seats, the duty of these bars is to strengthen the shell and protect the body in case of an accident.
The Britax Pavilion 70-G3 has been made with the SafeCell technology which is meant to provide higher safety for children, because these special cells in the material compress in case of a crash and save children from injuries.
Another very important safety technology that is used in Britax Pavilion 70 G3 is the energy absorbing EPP foam which, as its name shows, absorbs the energy that is made in a crash and also prevents children from being hurt. This energy absorbing foam can be found on the entire back of the seat.
For better and easier installation you can find lock offs on the seat for rear facing and forwardfacing positions as well. These lock offs helps you to keep the seat belt tight providing better hold to the seat and this way a safer journey because the seat cannot move in those positions. For your kid’s comfort there are 2 reclines, 1 in rear facing and two in forward facing position, this is not only a comfort feature but it also gives a plus safety to the seat.
Moreover, if you don’t want to damage the upholstery of your car, this is the best seat you could ever find because its bottom part is made of smooth materials with grippy edges to prevent your vehicle from damages and it provides extra hold too.
Basically, installation of the seat is very easy thanks to the LATCH system, because with this the seat can install itself. However, this is a very good and comfortable technology if you have a car made earlier than 2003 it may not have these connectors, or you can’t use them in every position. You should check the car’s manual to see which positions are possible for your car, but if none of them are possible, nothing is lost, because you can still use the seatbelts to install the seats which provide a solution as safe as the latch system although with a little bit more trouble while installing. If your car seat does not have a LATCH system you can tether the seat in rear facing position to the floor of the car with a so-called D-ring.
As every product has disadvantages, this product also has some, let’s take a quick look at them. Most of the extras that the Britax Pavilion 70 – G3 owns are a little bit difficult to use. For example the lock offs are sometimes hard to use in some kinds of vehicles. The rear facing legroom for the children is smaller than other car seats that are not produced by Britax and it is also negative that the height limit is measured from the top of the shell not from the head wing that can be stretched beyond the shell.
So this is what you have to know about this car seat, after considering the pros and cons of Pavilion 70-G3 you can surely make your decision whether this seat fits or doesn’t fits your needs.
